Inder Kaul, MD, MPH
President and Chief Medical Officer
Inder Kaul, MD, MPH, currently is the President and Chief Medical Officer at Artisan Pharma where he serves as the principal medical leader and spokesperson for the company with the Board of Directors, regulatory agencies worldwide, KOLs, clinical investigators, licensors, licensees, strategic alliances, business partners, advisors and consultants, investors, members of the media and other third parties. He provides the strategic and tactical leadership in all facets of the ART-123 development including the Program Advisory Board (PAB), the Data Monitoring Committee (DMC), scientific awareness/conference strategy, a broad based publication planning and product life cycle management.
Dr. Kaul has two decades of progressive experience with small to large size companies in the product development programs of drugs, biologics and devices. He has extensive clinical experience in patient management including acute care, evaluation and testing, and knowledge of epidemiology and biostatistics. He also has extensive regulatory experience with the FDA, EMEA and Health Canada encompassing submissions and successful registrations. Dr. Kaul’s managerial experience includes directing scores of clinical trials (Phase I-IV) across several therapeutic areas with concentration in the infectious diseases, immunology, cardiovascular, rheumatology and metabolic diseases. He is proficient in the program development as well as project management of INDs, IDEs, NDAs, BLAs, CTDs, SNDAs, S/NDSs, MAAs and PMAs.
Prior to joining Artisan Pharma, from 2006-2009, Dr. Kaul served as the Vice President of Clinical Development, Medical and Regulatory Affairs at Oscient Pharmaceuticals where he served as the lead medical, clinical, regulatory and product development representative of the company with the Board of Directors. His responsibilities included the development and leading new drug product development effort and provide the strategic and tactical leadership in all facets of drug development for two commercial products (ANTARA® and FACTIVE®) and an investigational agent Ramoplanin (a novel glycolipodepsipeptide antibiotic).
From 1998-2006, Dr. Kaul held several progressive positions at Abt Associates Clinical Trials, his last position there being Division Vice President. Dr. Kaul led the growth and operations of this full-service Clinical Research Organization and provided oversight of all clinical contracts held by the company including medical monitoring.

From 1994-1995, Dr. Kaul was the Director International Operations at Searle (now Pfizer) and was responsible for all international medical aspects related to the approval of drugs; post marketing activities of approved drugs; development of new products and line extensions; and reporting of these activities to the management of Searle.
From 1992-1994, Dr. Kaul was the Associate Director of Clinical Research (Immunology and Virology) at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc. and was responsible for all medical and clinical aspects of activities related to the approval of an NDA for a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor in the area of HIV and of a murine monoclonal antibody (anti-ICAM-1) in the area of solid organ transplants.
From 1990-1992, Dr. Kaul was the Director Medical Services at Parexel International Corporation where he ensured efficient and timely management of clinical trial projects at the divisional and interdivisional levels in addition to protocol development, efficacy and safety data analysis and study summary writing.
From 1988-1990, Dr. Kaul was with Candela Laser Corporation where he began his career in the industry after having practiced medicine for a few years. He managed the investigational programs for Gastrointestinal/Urology (calculi) and Dermatology (benign vascular and pigmented lesions) areas. He was also actively involved with grant proposal writing (SBIRs, NIH, etc.).
Dr. Kaul holds a M.D. in Anesthesiology and a M.P.H. in Epidemiology/Biostatistics from Harvard School of Public Health.
