Asahi Kasei Pharma America has recruited a team of some of the most renowned experts in sepsis, critical care and hematology specifically to help guide the development and commercialization of ART 123.
Jawed Fareed, PhD, DSC, FACB
Dr. Fareed is a Professor of Pathology & Pharmacology and Director of the Hemostasis & Thrombosis Research Laboratories at Loyola University Medical Center. He received his initial graduate training at the Imperial College, University of London in England, and at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada.
In 1974, he completed his doctorate degree at Loyola University Chicago in the areas of pharmacology and experimental therapeutics. Currently, he is pursuing research, teaching and service activities. In 1996, he received the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa in hematology from the University of Bordeaux in France. He has also received numerous awards from various national and international organizations.
Dr. Fareed's main area of interest is research in the study of the pathogenesis of thrombotic and vascular disorders, development of novel anticoagulant and antithrombotic drugs, and proteomics. He is the author or co-author of some 450 publications in the area of antithrombotic drug pharmacology. In addition, he has authored several textbooks and has published extensively in the area of hemostasis and thrombosis.
Dr. Fareed views the current progress in the field of antithrombotic drugs in critical care medicine as a major advance in health care, but cautions that basic and preclinical and tranlational studies require additional attention. In particular, the understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of thrombogenesis will be a crucial element in developing new drugs.
