ART 123 Program Advisory Board

Artisan has recruited a team of some of the most renowned experts in sepsis, critical care and hematology specifically to help guide the development and commercialization of ART 123.

Naoki Aikawa, MD, DMSc, FACS
Professor Emeritus, Keio University, Tokyo, Japan

Professor Aikawa has led an exemplary career in surgery and critical care medicine. He obtained his medical degree with summa cum laude from the School of Medicine, Keio University, Tokyo, and embarked on residencies in surgery at the Keio University Hospital. Professor Aikawa furthered his career as a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and Clinical Fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA.

On his return to Japan, Professor Aikawa held senior roles in general surgery at Keio University Hospital before specializing in surgical infection and critical care medicine.

Professor Aikawa is board certified in Surgery, Intensive Care Medicine, and Infection Control, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Honorary Fellow of the American Surgical Association. He is a member of numerous international and national professional societies and organizations, including the American Burn Association, the American Society for Microbiology, and the Japanese Society for Infectious Diseases. Professor Aikawa is President, or past President, of several professional organizations, including the International Society for Burn Injuries, the Japan Society of Surgical Infection, the Japan Shock Society, and the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine.

As a leading surgeon in Japan, Professor Aikawa lends his expertise to the editorial boards of a number of international and national peer-review journals, including International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, Burns, Intensive Care Medicine, Surgery Today, and JAMA Japanese edition. He has also authored numerous book chapters and articles in international and national peer-review journals.

Professor Aikawa sits on numerous medical advisory committees for the Japanese government, including the Drug and Food Administration Committee and the Chair of the National Medical Board Examination Committee, and he is a medical advisor to the US Embassy in Tokyo. Professor Aikawa has received several honors, such as the prestigious Harvard Prize, awarded by the Harvard Club of Japan, and the Journal of Infection and Chemotherapy award. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Medical Information Center in Tokyo, which is a medical think tank in Japan.
