In drug development, you must know more than science.

Our Products

Artisan is committed to bringing novel, first-in-class critical-care and hospital-based therapeutics to patients, treating physicians and payors worldwide. Our first product, ART 123, is a novel, recombinant, human and soluble thrombomodulin — and the only drug under development for DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulation) in sepsis.

DIC entails the widespread formation of microthrombi, ultimately involving organ dysfunction and death. This severe condition frequently occurs in sepsis patients, who number more than 1.8 million each year between the U.S. and Europe. About 30% of sepsis patients develop DIC, which doubles their risk of death.

ART 123 is particularly well-suited to treat DIC in sepsis because this condition is a disorder of both systemic inflammatory and coagulation pathways. ART 123 targets both of these pathways in a highly synergistic way.

Phase 3 studies have been completed in Japan for ART 123 for DIC, and an application for approval in Japan was filed in September 2006. We plan on initiating Phase 2b studies of ART 123 for DIC in sepsis in the U.S. in early 2007. These trials will be large enough to clearly demonstrate safety and efficacy in this sorely underserved patient population.

Artisan has recruited an ART 123 Program Advisory Board to assist us in developing the product in a manner most beneficial to patients. These investigators, who represent some of the most renowned researchers in sepsis, critical care and hematology, will be invaluable in the strategic design and implementation of our development program. Looking Ahead
In addition to ART 123, we aim to acquire other late-stage or marketed products in the area of critical-care and hospital-based therapeutics. With our management's deep experience in both international product development and strategic alliance management, we believe we can be superior partners in product and commercial development for the long-term.
